The New Orleans Saints are in Landover, Maryland this Sunday as they take on the Washington Football Team (Fox, 1:00 p.m. ET).
Oddsmakers are expecting a close game, as the spread is 2.5 points in the Saints’ favor on DraftKings. The line has moved in New Orleans’ direction, as it opened pick ’em in Las Vegas on Sunday night.
While browsing for lines, why not dive into some player and game props as well? Props are a fun way to add to the excitement with a different angle in mind.
Let’s take a look at the prop market in this Week 5 matchup:
Quarterback Props
Jameis Winston vs. Taylor Heinicke may not be Tom Brady vs. Peyton Manning, but this is a quarterback matchup worth watching. Winston is posting efficient numbers (64% completion percentage, 613 yards, eight touchdowns, two interceptions), but he is still a bit of a wild card. You never really know what you are going to get. Washington’s pass rush hasn’t lived up to expectations but has the potential to get going and make Winston uncomfortable.
On the other side, Heinicke is one of the more feel-good stories in football right now. It wasn’t long ago when Heinicke was playing for the St. Louis BattleHawks of the XFL. He found his way to Washington last season and started the wild-card playoff game against the Buccaneers. There, he completed 26 of 44 passes for 306 yards with a touchdown and an interception, and added a rushing touchdown, in a 31-23 loss.
With Ryan Fitzpatrick out with an injury, Heinicke is now the main signal-caller in Washington. He is coming off a 290-yard, three-touchdown performance against the Falcons. On the year, he has completed 69.5% of his passes for 960 yards with eight touchdowns and three interceptions. In addition, he has rushed for 87 yards and a touchdown.
Here is a look at some QB props available on DraftKings for Winston and Heinicke in this matchup:
Pass Yards | Pass TDs | INTs | Completions | |
---|---|---|---|---|
Jameis Winston | 198.5 (O/U -115) | 1.5 (OV +120, UN -160) | 0.5 (OV +105, UN -140) | 17.5 (OV +105, UN -135) |
Taylor Heinicke | 241.5 (O/U -115) | 1.5 (OV +105, UN -140) | 0.5 (OV -180, UN +135) | 21.5 (OV +100, U -135) |
Both Winston and Heinicke seem to have favorable matchups in this contest, as both passing defenses rank near the bottom of the league. New Orleans ranks 26th allowing 283.3 yards per game through the air, while Washington ranks 28th allowing 299.0.
Heinicke’s running abilities add another dimension to his game and give New Orleans something else to worry about. PointsBet has Heinicke’s rushing total listed at 21.5 with -115 juice on either side of the prop.

Game Props
Along with player props, game props are an entertaining way to have some stake in the action. These bets focus on each team’s performance over the course of the game, and there are many options available. The chart below showcases some of the notable ones on DraftKings:
Total Points | Total TD's | 1st To Score | |
---|---|---|---|
Saints | 22.5 (OV -120, UN -120) | 2.5 (OV -110, UN -130) | -120 |
WFT | 20.5 (OV -110, UN -120) | 2.5 (OV +115, UN -155) | -110 |
Washington has played in some shootouts in recent weeks. In their last three games, the Football Team beat the Giants 30-29, lost to Buffalo 43-21, then held a track meet against Atlanta last week that ended with 64 total points.
If the Saints are going to pick up their third win of the season, their offense needs to have a solid day.
On the other side, the New Orleans defense let Daniel Jones go off last Sunday. Jones threw for over 400 yards and two touchdowns.
