Betting On The NFL Playoffs In Louisiana

The NFL Playoffs are in full swing, and bettors in Louisiana have a chance to get in on the action. Sports betting is now available at 10 retail casinos, and online betting is expected to be available soon.

There are four games on this weekend’s NFL playoff schedule, with two taking place on Saturday and two more on Sunday. If you are looking to place a bet in the state of Louisiana, here are your options:

Ten Retail Locations Available

Right now, sports betting is only available at 10 brick-and-mortar casinos in Louisiana:

  • New Orleans: Boomtown Casino & Hotel and Harrah’s New Orleans Hotel & Casino
  • Bossier City: Horseshoe Bossier City Hotel & Casino, Margaritaville Resort Casino, and Boomtown Casino Hotel
  • Shreveport: Sam’s Town Hotel and Casino
  • Baton Rouge: L’Auberge Casino Hotel
  • Lake Charles: L’Auberge Casino and Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino
  • Marksville: Paragon Casino Resort and Hotel

You can place bets on this weekend’s NFL games at any of these locations. Most locations have their own sportsbooks, but some have partnered with more nationally-recognized sportsbooks. For example, Caesars is the platform used at Harrah’s New Orleans and Horseshoe Hotel & Casino in Bossier City. FanDuel has a retail location at Sam’s Town in Shreveport, while DraftKings is available at the Golden Nugget in Lake Charles.

Types Of Bets Available

Moneyline Bets

Also referred to as a straight bet, a moneyline bet is when you simply pick who you think will win the game. Regardless of how close the game is, if the team you pick wins, then you win money. Simple as that.

Point Spread Bets

Things get a little more interesting with a point spread bet. In the NFL, one team is usually favored over its opponent, and it is favored to win by a certain amount of points. For example, consider this weekend’s matchup between the Bengals and Titans. Tennessee is favored by 3.5 points, meaning it shows as -3.5 on sportsbook apps. If you bet on the Titans -3.5, in order to win the bet, they must not only win the game but win by at least four points. On the other side, if you take the Bengals +3.5, then they must either win the game or lose by three points or less.

Game Totals

These types of bets refer to the total amount of points scored in the game. You can place a bet on the number of points to either go over or stay under the listed total. For example, in Sunday’s matchup between the Rams and Buccaneers, the total is currently set at 48.5. If you bet on the over, you will need the two teams to combine for at least 49 points in the game to win your bet. If you bet on the under, then you would need the two teams to stay under 48.5 combined points to win.

Parlay Bets

Parlays are a fun way to potentially earn a bigger payout. Parlays include multiple picks on at least two different games. Parlays can be made on the moneyline, point spread, or game totals. For example, if you put together a two-team moneyline parlay involving the Chiefs and Packers this weekend, you would need both teams to win their respective games in order to receive a payout.

Player Prop Bets

Player props focus on a single player. In NFL games, a common player prop is total passing yards for quarterbacks. Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers has a passing yards total of 266.5 for Saturday’s matchup against San Francisco. San Francisco QB Jimmy Garoppolo’s total is a bit lower at 238.5.

Futures Bets

A futures bet is different from placing a bet on a single game. In the NFL, the futures market right now revolves around the Super Bowl. Here is the current futures market to win Super Bowl 56 on DraftKings:

  • Green Bay Packers: +350
  • Kansas City Chiefs: +380
  • Buffalo Bills: +500
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers: +550
  • Los Angeles Rams: +750
  • Tennessee Titans: +850
  • San Francisco 49ers: +1000
  • Cincinnati Bengals: +1500
